Helpful Tips for Taking Care of Damaged Braces

Posted .

The metal brackets, wires, and hardware of the braces provided by Dr. John Fleming are designed to realign your teeth through the course of successive adjustments. Should any part of the orthodontic hardware become loose, bent, or damaged in any way, it could increase the amount of time needed for your braces to effectively realign your teeth.

Having your damaged braces examined and repaired as soon as possible reduces the chances of potential complications.

When Dr. John Fleming installed your braces, he provided you with a piece of special orthodontic wax. If a loose bracket, band, or wire is poking your cheek or gums, you should try to secure it inside the wax. If you don’t have the wax handy, you might be able to make do with a pencil eraser.

It’s also not unheard of for a spacer to come loose or fall out shortly before a scheduled adjustment session. If this happens, you should give us a call. We might recommend coming in for an earlier adjustment and having the spacer replaced.
