How Do I Clean My Smile When I Have Braces?

Posted .

Oral hygiene can be tricky when you have braces. However, it’s not as tricky as you think it is. With Dr. John Fleming’s tips and guidelines, you can properly clean your smile and braces each day, and stay on track toward the results you desire!

Tip No. 1: Brush your teeth after you eat. This means you need to brush after each meal and after snacks. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. These tools effectively clean your teeth, and appliances that strengthen the smile. Brushing while you have braces might be a bit difficult, but if you have an interdental brush, you can use it to clean the hard-to-reach areas around your braces your brush couldn’t reach.

Tip No. 2: Floss your teeth at least once a day. However, Dr. Gluck and our team recommend flossing after you eat because doing so can remove food particles from between the teeth and in the your hardware. As you floss, use the floss threader we gave you. This tool can help you thread the floss through the space between the teeth and wire.

Tip No. 3: Rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily. This can help you further clean your smile and appliance and it can help you freshen your breath.
